Volvo has invested an unnamed sum in the high speed charging specialist FreeWire Technologies, who has specialised on flexible high speed charging in California. The charging stations use low voltage power, so operators can simply connect them to a standard power outlet.

The investment was made through the Volvo Cars Tech Fund, which was freshly launched this year. The Swedish automobile manufacturer set up the fund this year to invest in promising startups from the international technology industry sector.

FreeWire, which is based in San Francisco, is one such promising technology startup. According to Volvo, EV drivers can use the fast charging technology by the US Americans to take advantage of high speed charging without having to install the expensive high voltage architecture.
