The German car supplier has created a platform for autonomous EVs called Intelligent Dynamic Driving Chassis (IDDC). Among others, it is going to serve as a basis for Rinspeed’s new urban mobility concept dubbed Snap.

The latter features a flat chassis (“skateboard”) and several exchangeable cabins (“pod”) that allow a broad range of applications, as reported.

Core feature of the IDDC is its modular rear axle system mSTARS with an integrated rear axle steering system called Active Kinematics Control (AKC). The axle also hosts an electric motor and power electronics. While the motor for the Snap vehicle will provide an output of 50 kW, in other models it shall have a standard output of 150 kW. Thus, the platform is designed to surpass great distances at rather low speed levels.
